Luxury Swiss Watches

Luxury Swiss Watches

Most people dream of owning luxury Swiss watches or at least one of them anyway. The names speak volumes: Patek Philippe, Breitling, Tag Heuer, Gucci, Rolex, Longines, Tissot, Maurice Lacroix, Bulgari and Omega.

I did not put those in any special order, just how they came into my mind and there must be a few luxury Swiss watches that I have missed out.

There is no doubt that women like their luxury Swiss watches as well, but in general, men prefer a watch to jewelry, although a beautiful watch is really a piece of jewelry too.

However, a woman can wear a brooch, a tiara, a necklace or a bracelet to show her status, whereas a man is more limited. A beautiful luxury Swiss watch is a viable way of displaying wealth for men.

The fact is however, that the need for luxury Swiss watches for telling the time has passed. The only real reason for wearing an expensive Swiss watch is status. It used to be to have an accurate idea of the time too.

People could justify wearing expensive luxury Swiss watches because they were the most accurate timepieces in the world, but now everyone carries a mobile phone, which is more accurate than an mechanical device that man can make.

Cogs wear and inaccuracies appear in even the best luxury Swiss watches, but that is not true of digital devices with no moving parts that update the time frequently over the network, which is the case with a mobile phone.

In fact, some of the big names in luxury Swiss watches have adopted this technology into some of their timepieces and they update the time regularly with radio or Internet stations too. They are often referred to as ‘radio watches’.

Nevertheless, people will always find a way to display their wealth, which they equate with status. Why else would the above brand names make ‘ordinary’ expensive watches and special limited edition models too?

Not only that, but you can buy the basic movement built into stainless steel, silver, gold or platinum and even the platinum model can be encrusted in gemstones like a top of the range Cartier watch.

There are various types of ‘movement’ available in luxury Swiss watches. There is the traditional wind-up, which is not so popular any more; the automatic, which works on the movement of your arm, which is probably still the most popular; and there is the battery-operated version, with or without the radio synchronization of the time.

Even though luxury Swiss watches are superfluous for telling the time, most people will still always want one. One problem, though is the number of fakes about, so if you are going to buy a watch for $1,000 – $10,000 take care.

I would not look on eBay for such a watch, although many people do. Rather, it is better to go to an authorized dealer and negotiate a discount. The market in luvury Swiss watches is pretty slack at the moment, so you will probably get a good deal.

Otherwise you can just bide your time until you are passing the next dealer in luxury Swiss watches.
